Our History
Company Founder Nathan Benderson got his start at age 16 buying and selling bottles from breweries. In 1949, he purchased and later redeveloped a brewery in Buffalo, New York, marking the first of many of his successful real estate ventures and the beginning of Benderson Development.
Today, we celebrate nearly eight decades of growth and achievement in our industry. Under the leadership of three generations of the Benderson family, the company has grown to become one of the largest privately owned real estate development companies in the United States.
Our Portfolio
From the first property in Buffalo, our portfolio has grown nationally to include over 1,000 properties totaling more than 55 million square feet in 40 states. We own a diverse collection of properties, including market-dominant and specialty centers, grocery-anchored centers, warehouse/industrial, offices and award-winning hotels.
